It is with great pride and gratitude that I welcome you to Summit Academy Charter School’s 17th year of excellence and growth. What began as a bold vision to provide Brooklyn’s young people with access to an outstanding education has evolved into a thriving community of scholars, families, educators, and leaders who embody resilience, ambition, and hope.

Throughout our journey, one truth has remained constant: when scholars are held to high expectations and surrounded by caring, skilled educators, they rise to meet — and often exceed — them. At Summit, excellence is more than a goal; it is a way of life.

As we celebrate this milestone year, I extend my heartfelt thanks to our families, staff, and community partners for walking this journey with us. Together, we will continue to chart a path of excellence, equity, and opportunity — for our scholars, for Brooklyn, and for generations to come.

Interim Principal

I am pleased to greet you as the new Interim Principal of Summit Academy! As we celebrate our 17th year bringing quality education to the Red Hook community, it brings me joy to know that I am serving a school that continues to raise the bar in education and culture.

Having seen Summit Academy through many lenses — teacher, Arts Director, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal — I have first-hand experience of what this school has achieved: culturally relevant and responsive teaching, a successful athletic program, a state-of-the-art E-Sports Lab, a thriving arts program, and a college and career readiness program that prepares young people for academic and professional success for years to come.

Our theme for this academic year is “Rooted in Purpose: Believing, Belonging, and Becoming.” Summit Academy has always been home, and it will continue to be the right choice for scholars, teachers, and the community.

Our Mission

“Summit Academy bridges the gap between aspirations and reality by preparing sixth through twelfth-grade students to gain acceptance to, excel in, and graduate from college — using three pillars of success: mastery of core subjects, character building, and community leadership.”

What We Believe

Our Core Beliefs

These beliefs enable staff, students, families, and community to create a safe, supportive environment where every scholar is motivated to learn.

All Scholars Can Learn

We believe all scholars can achieve at high levels when provided with high-quality, engaging instruction led by skilled and caring teachers. We strive to understand how each scholar learns best and provide differentiated instruction.

Learning Should Be Engaging & Rigorous

Teachers must both excite and challenge scholars in their work and ensure that they understand how it is important to their lives and future goals. Learning must be tailored to fit every scholar.

Teaching is an Artful, Sacred Science

Teachers possess a great power to influence and shape scholars’ intellect and character. We model effective teaching practices to support scholar growth and recognize this great responsibility.

Character is Key

We want to raise not just intelligent citizens but compassionate and conscious global citizens who realize their impact on their communities and the world around them.

Leaders Create the Culture

Our instructional leaders foster a collaborative environment where innovative ideas and best practices are shared freely to enhance the teaching and learning process. Teachers are leaders, too.

It Takes a Village

Summit Academy partners with families, friends, and our local and global community to teach and develop our children. Our Family Achievement Council (FAC) meets monthly.

Our Approach

Educational Philosophy

Summit Academy’s educational philosophy is built on the conviction that rigorous academics, strong character development, and meaningful community engagement together create the foundation for lifelong success.
